TRIUND TREK PERFECT WEEKEND DESTINATION
Triund trek is one of the most famous treks to go over a weekend from Delhi and Chandigarh. It is perhaps one of the easiest Himalayan treks to do on your own. This is a picturesque trek with the snow-covered Dhauladhar ranges and breathtaking views of the Kangra valley. Triund is an ideal destination for those who are seeking a hassle-free taste of trekking in the Himalayas. The trek can easily be completed over a weekend.
The journey to Triund is short but steep. The ascend is well-compensated by refreshing walks amongst oak trees and rhododendron. There are also varieties of songbirds in the forests along the path which make it a birdwatcher’s delight.
There are a large number of trekkers who go for this trek considering this an easy trek. This makes it difficult to enjoy the calmness of the place and even may get crowded on top during the weekends or holiday season. It is better to experience the charm of this trek during the weekdays.
The town of McLeod Ganj (also known as little Lhasa) also provides a great opportunity to experience the vibrant Tibetan culture.
What are there to watch?
1. The amazing view of the Mighty Dhauladhar Range and other peaks from the trek
This trek offers some of the best views with very little climbing. There is no need to go deep into a valley like the region of Manali or climb for multiple days to get some stunning views. Trekkers get to see the Moon Peak, Arthur’s seatRifle Horn, and the mighty Dhauladhar range clearly visible right when they start the trek.
2. Trekking in the wonderful pine forests of Himachal Pradesh
Although trekking through the forest area is small on this trek, it takes one through a pretty forest segment that they will remember the trek for. The trek takes people through pine, rhododendrons, and coniferous trees. Trekking through the forest and the grand opening of the rim at the end of the tree line is indeed a sight to experience.
3. The amazing Sunset from Triund Trek
The sunset is perhaps the main attraction of the Triund trek and what makes all the trekkers stay overnight, and camp at the ridge. Look behind where there will be the sun setting with some golden lights hitting those mountain ranges.
4. Home to more treks and explorations
Triund trek is actually not the last destination on the trek, unlike the other summit treks. There is much more it has to offer for trekking enthusiasts. If one wants to explore more and have experience trekking in the Himalayas, then Triund just acts as a gateway to many more adventures. There are many other places to explore like going all the way to the snow line, and the Lakha Cave for newbies.Going to Indrahar Pass will be something to explore for experienced trekkers over multiple days.
Best season to attempt the Triund Trek
Apart from the monsoon seasons of July, and August, and the peak winters of January, and February, the Triund trek can be attempted around the year. The spring and summer months of March to June have the ideal weather conditions to trek in. This spot is perfect for trekking and escaping from the harsh weather conditions of April, and May with one extra layer of warm clothing.
The post-monsoon season is perfect for the clearest views of the mountain peaks from the trek. One can expect the first spell of snowfall on the trek in December. Triund trek is considered to be one of the easiest treks to do in the Himalayas and can be done on our own if we are going from the trail starting from the Gallu Devi temple.
There are no difficult sections along but there are a few things to keep in mind while trekking.
- Trekking on the sections can be tricky where rocks and boulders can be slippery. Make sure to wear proper trekking shoes and carry trekking poles on the trek.
- If the trekking is from the alternative route of the Bagsu waterfalls, then there is a need to be careful about areas that are steeper and very slippery. This is not a popular route that first-time trekkers take.
The temperatures will vary depending on the season we are doing this trek. If trekking is during the summer season, then the day temperatures can be expected to be around 16 to 25 degrees. It can drop to 7 to 10 degrees at night. Temperatures are expected to drop during post-monsoon and the months approaching winter (September to December). The day temperatures will be usually pleasant at about 14 to 18 degrees, and it can drop to 1 to 5 degrees at night.
Being known for its easy trail, the Triund trek is something that every trekker should do. It gives us a lot of memories to hold for the rest of our life with its picture-perfect views and serenity.
