Fantastic Animes That Are Not Set In Japan
Anime is a form of popular culture produced in Japan, and most anime shows are based on actual locations there. Among the most popular forms of tourism in Japan, today is Anime Tourism, also known as Anime Pilgrimage, which involves visiting the sites of various anime series.
It goes without saying that certain well-known anime programs are influenced by cities all around the world, in addition to Japan. They are set in actual cities or villages outside of Japan.
Today, I’d like to showcase four well-known anime that draw their inspiration from real-world urban settings around the globe. If you’re an anime fan planning a trip abroad, check out the list of anime spots across the world.
1. Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure (8.4/10)
It is an enduringly popular fantasy animation series. The entire Phantom Blood to JoJolion series has eight episodes. From the original manga, which spans five parts of the manga, the anime series’s first four seasons were adapted.
The Strange Adventure of Jojo Naples, Italy, is the sole setting for Golden Wind. There are many places in the city that resemble Neapolis, where the anime characters reside.
2. Attack on Titan (9/10)
This is an anime series that debuted in 2013 that combines action and dark fantasy. The anime series has four seasons and is an adaptation of the Hajime Isayama original manga. You can read the manga using Mangaowl. Beginning in 2019, the series’ last season will be broadcast.
Titans that push humanity to the brink of annihilation serves as the dark fantasy anime’s emblem. Along with the other members of the Survey Corps, the main characters, Eren Yeager and Mikasa Ackerman engage in battle with the titans while attempting to understand why they are present in the universe.
Major fans speculate that Attack on Titan is based on the German town of Nördlingen, while the model location has not yet been made public. Similar to the towns surrounded by walls in the anime, Nördlingen is full of homes with orange-colored roofs that create a circle around the entire town.
3. Spirited Away (8.6/10)
The most well-known Studio Ghibli film, which Hayao Miyazaki directed, was released in 2001. With almost 30 billion yen in revenue, it is the all-time top-grossing movie in Japan.
The protagonist of Spirited Away is a 10-year-old girl named Chihiro, who enters an odd and bizarre realm with her parents and discovers that they have been cursed by a witch to become pigs. She makes the decision to put in a lot of effort in the bathhouse to assist them.
There are several legends around the locations that served as inspiration for the film. Many fans consider Jiufen in Taiwan to be a representation of the Spirited Away universe. You can watch the movie for free on Animixplay.
4. Castle in the Sky (8/10)
Hayao Miyazaki originally helmed it in 1986, shortly after Studio Ghibli was established. One of the most well-known Studio Ghibli films, Castle in the Sky, has been adored by fans everywhere.
Wales served as the inspiration for the movie Castle in the Sky, directed by Hayao Miyazaki. Wales is home to a number of locations that you can see in the anime movie.
