7 Common Myths About Infertility Treatment Busted

As a couple, you are aware of or come to know the things about your reproductive health when you are trying to conceive. Infertility or fertility problems is one of those topics. The points you know about it through any unauthorised sources could be true or false. Some points about infertility may be completely a myth. Here are some common myths:

1. You need to feel relaxed

It is true relaxing helps you with infertility by lowering your stress level. However, just having a relaxing feeling can’t help you expand your family or conceive a child. You need to treat your infertility or fertility issues, as positive thinking or relaxing alone can’t fix your reproductive health problems.

For example, you (male partner) come to know you have poor sperm count, which is azoospermia in medical language. Being positive and relaxing can’t help you get over it. Instead, you should make an effort to treat it through medical intervention like azoospermia treatment.

2. Try harder and harder

Usually, you (couples of the opposite sex) are advised to try herder to conceive. Actually, it is only what occurs between the sheets. Hower, there are many more things about fertility than the actual physical intimacy. Advising couples like you to try can be demoralising.

You need to comprehend the facts on the complete process of a conception after a timed and unprotected sex. It is good to consult a fertility expert, go through the recommended tests, and treat the detected issues, such as blocked/damaged fallopian tubes, poor sperm count, and ovulation disorders.

3. Infertility links only to females

Even in the 21st century or current world, we are stuck to conventional thoughts and rituals that are not scientifically true. Generally, society or conventional families target women for having no child after a few years of their marriage. It is not true that only females are the culprit. Infertility affects both men and women of any community or geographical region.

It is true that maternal age plays a crucial role in having a conception and ageing affects a female’s fertility. According to Dr Archana Agarwal, a fertility expert at Mannat Fertility Clinic, ageing affects a male’s fertility too. After the age of 40 years, males have a decrease in the volume of their semen and sperm motility. Poor sperm can lead a male to have an inability to make his female partner pregnant.

5. IVF is the only way to treat infertility

It is not true in any way. IVF is an effective infertility treatment. However, its success depends on many factors such as maternal health and lifestyle habits. Further, your doctor may advise you for ICSI treatment along with IVF treatment if you (male partner) have poor sperm count, shape, and motility. You (couples) need to opt for IUI or donor egg or donor egg depending on your reproductive health situation.

6. IVF is not affordable to everyone

It is true that ART treatments like IVF are expensive and time consuming. However, most couples can afford it with a proper treatment and financial plan. You can buy a health insurance policy that covers infertility treatments or make a fertility fund to save some money to have IVF treatment.

7. Every fertility journey is the same

It is completely a myth. As you differ from others in terms of your look, physical appearance, lifestyle, etc. your fertility problems are different from others. And hence, your fertility journey is different from other couples. You may get your issues resolved soon or take a longer time to treat the same.
